In early September a couple of friends of mine decided to make plans for my birthday weekend. At first we thought of going to New Orleans but then it struck me….why not make it a girls weekend in the city? New York City! We decided to make this happen and hopped on the next booking site and purchase our tickets to the east coast!
Being a southern eastern native, I thought it was something I should experience at least once since moving out to the west coast. I never really had a reason to make it to NYC but thought it was a much needed adventure to be checked off my bucket list. After sometime, our day had come to make it to the east coast. A whirl of emotions later, and flight delays our first stop was Philadelphia, PA.
First Stop Philadelphia, PA
After some struggle getting to the right hotel room, we found ourselves in arms walking all over the city, taking photos, and decided to make a quick stop at the local Reading Terminal Market. This pace was filled with a variety of choices to eat from so we decided to look around and buy something that tickled our fancy.
Rooftop Bars are a Must in PA
After we fed our starving lady faces, we took a ride closer to south street to try and find a good upstairs bar we could see the city from. At last, we found a suitable rooftop bar with panorama views of the city. We took photos, and after some struggle of showing the girlfriends how to take a manual photo on my camera, we laughed and shared the beautiful cityscape that Philly had to offer. After seeing the sunset in the best possible rooftop bar, we headed down south street to get a closer look of the bar scene and later made our way back to our hotel room.
A New York State of Mind
Ahh the big apple, the city that never sleeps, the place where if you can make it here…you can make it anywhere-New York! We started off our morning by taking a local bus into NYC ( a 2 hour commute) from Philly early the next day. After some talk about the subways and how to get to Williamsburg we found that Google Maps actually had a great train map with directions so off we went to celebrate my birthday in NYC.
After settling into our hip apartment in the city, we met up with a local friend who treated us to brunch at Cafe Colette a must try for you locals if you’re reading this! Afterwards, we went down to Manhattan to treat ourselves for a girls night out in the city for a birthday celebration-it was definitely a night to remember and my memories hold the photo’s to that night…so sorry guys I can’t share my evening with you but take my word, It was pretty fun for this old lady lol!
The Mecca of Options
After spending a night out on the town we decided to leave our footprints in the one park everyone has to experience-Central Park. Surprisingly, I forgot my battery for my camera while commuting to and from Williamsburg so I had to make some use of my new phone-not too bad for a hand held device!
The subways and miles of walking were brutal on our little toes. We had to have spent several hours just running around trying to get a glimpse of the city. After the sun started to set we strolled through Times Square for a quick photo and then made our way over to a restaurant with a friend. We then trucked back to our homestead for the rest of the evening to grab drinks with our NYC host.
In the end, we couldn’t keep up nearly as much as we’d hoped, and yes we did miss out on seeing some pretty epic landmarks but 2 1/2 days is not nearly enough time to experience everything this enormous city has to offer. We’ll be back we said but not until we take our next real vacation on the islands of Jamaica! Summer 2017 in Jamaica, or Costa Rica? Either way…I need some fun in the sun for my next birthday.
Bye NYC We’ll Be Back Again for Our Pizza and Statute of Liberty Photos!
